Web accessibility training courses for public servants - Slovenia

Administration Academy (Ministry of Public Administration) has developed and implements training courses for Web accessibility for public servants.

The main goals of the training courses are understanding the importance of web accessibility from the point of view of people with different types of disabilities, understanding the characteristics and peculiarities of each group of these users, getting to know the legal basis and making the web accessible. 

The courses are as follows:

  • Web accessibility – basic level (Spletna dostopnost – osnovna raven). Training course is performed as a seminar (live or online) and covers following topics: Basics of web accessibility, Legal bases and Web accessibility principles and WCAG and harmonized standard guidelines.
  • Web accessibility – intermediate level (Spletna dostopnost – nadaljevalna raven). Training course is performed as workshop (live or online) and covers following topics: Presentation of different user experiences of people with different disabilities (which contents and documents are not accessible to them and how to adapt them accordingly); Basic principles of creating content (relevant WCAG criteria for level AA); Preparation of accessible content online (example on Word documents); Demonstration of tools for checking the accessibility of web pages and Word documents.
  • Web accessibility – advanced level (Spletna dostopnost – zahtevna raven). Training course is performed as workshop (live or online) and covers following topics: Preparation of accessible documents (Excel, PowerPoint and PDF) and Adding alternative text and closed captions to video.  
  • Evaluating Web accessibility – e-learning (Preverjanje spletne dostopnosti – e-usposabljanje). Training course is performed as a self-paced e-learning and covers following topics: Setting the contrast ratio in office documents; Checking the accessibility of websites; Checking the accessibility of Microsoft Office documents and checking the accessibility of PDF documents.
