Addressing the wide spectrum of users’ needs is a fundamental goal in modern design. This approach ensures that products, environments, and services remain accessible and functional for the highest number of people. When combined with the fast-paced, results-oriented nature of rapid innovation, students can tackle real-world challenges in a dynamic, creative, and iterative manner.
This two-day workshop empowers university students from diverse disciplines to develop solutions that embrace inclusivity. Through quick prototyping and consistent expert feedback, teams learn to identify user pain points, transform them into actionable ideas, and communicate these ideas effectively.
By merging challenge-based methods into the learning process, this workshop serves as a replicable educational model that can be integrated into a variety of courses. It promotes active learning and prepares students with critical skills such as teamwork, empathy, and interdisciplinary collaboration. Moreover, the workshop will emphasise the real-world impact that can extend beyond the workshop, improving quality of life and fostering inclusive innovation.
Objectives of the workshop:
- Day 1, at different universities: Introduce rapid innovation methodologies applied to Design for All, propose a set of challenges and have teams formulate their initial ideas.
- Day 2, AccessibleEU event at UPM, on May 6: Teams bring their ideas (including those developed at home), present them to experts for feedback, and explore how the rapid innovation methodology can become a broader educational resource
